Forced to Fly

A PAGE FROM MY LATE NIGHT JOURNAL

Forced to Fly: A poem by Heather Stout

did you know when we talked last night?

remember how i flat out asked?
but you just hid scared behind your mask

guess fear isnt as deep in you as your preach
honestly thought it would be more of a reach

you took my biggest trigger and then took a hammer to my foundation

but you forgot i can build my own wings

my dreams, my power, my ambitions
worked so hard to get here
im proud to stand tall on my mountain

i will not be held down by insecurities that arent mine to hold near

funny how when put to the test
you cowered over just like the rest

for a bit you tried to support me
but it was the way you wanted
not the way i needed
not the way i pleaded

you warned me about your quirks
hey i used to think they were cute
but as things went on
your childish ways caused me to put you on mute

my dreams, my power, my ambitions
worked so hard to get here
im proud to stand tall on my mountain

i will not be held down by insecurities that arent mine to hold near

but you forgot i can build my own wings

my platform now stands in the sky
unreachable by those who are just passing by
they gotta earn it, gotta sweat a bit
its a damn party, its gonna be lit

my dreams, my power, my ambitions
worked so hard to get here
im proud to stand tall on my mountain

i will not be held down by insecurities that arent mine to hold near

you forgot i can build my own wings
made with the strength in my veins
nowhere is unreachable

you thought you ground me but you forced me to fly

my platform now stands in the sky
